Christ’s Righteousness
“My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One.” 1 John 2:1 (NIV)
Jesus came to earth to save us from our sins by trading His Heavenly glory for our earthly limitations. Jesus did what we could not and would not, in meeting the sacrifice for humanity’s fall, in order that we may be redeemed for eternity. Our Savior understands our frailty and advocates on our behalf, pleading His righteousness in our judgement.
We have a fallen human nature with sinful propensities, but the closer we walk with the Savior the closer we become like Him. In this way, sin begins to lose its grip as our default position, but when it does surface in our behavior, we know to turn to our Advocate.
Let’s pray today that we may trust in Christ’s righteousness and be confident in His willingness to advocate in our behalf.
